Jose Mourinho is the first Manchester United manager to have had the entire support of the team in the transfer market since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, according to Erik ten Hag. Mourinho said last month in an interview with the Telegraph that he was not given the same “trust” as Ten Hag, despite winning the League Cup and the Europa League during his two years in charge at Old Trafford. “I lacked what Ten Hag had while he was a Manchester United player. That kind of assistance wasn’t available to me. I wasn’t that trusting,” he remarked. He continued: “I felt if they trusted me and believed in my experience things could be different.” Ten Hag responded by claiming that Mourinho had unheard-of support from “Apart from Mourinho, the manager didn’t get the players they wanted, and that is what you need,” he told ESPN Brazil. “I’m sure we can accomplish our objectives, but the competition is fierce. It’s no longer a race between two horses,” he went on. “There are seven or eight Premier League teams with strong squads that compete for the championship. Therefore, you must assemble that team if you want to win the championship.” Ten Hag has informed INEOS that they must add more depth to his team in the summer, according to a Sunday story from The Athletic. For Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the chairman of INEOS, and Sir Dave Brailsford, the director of sport, one of the most important concerns is Ten Hag’s future. Though nothing has been decided, Ten Hag is in charge of the preparations for the upcoming season. Tonight’s matchup between United and Crystal Palace will put them in the eighth position in the standings, 13 points behind Aston Villa in fourth.
